The All American Classic

The All American Running Hound Classic Field trial was run February 2-7, 1975 with headquarters at
beautiful Huxley Bay Marina near Center, Texas.

On Saturday, February 1, hunters began to arrive from sixteen states which were represented at the trial,
some from as far away as California, Washington and Michigan. President James Burke, Jr. was on hand to
greet everyone with his usual smile and that Texas "Welcome Pardner."

Sunday we were all set, ready to register members and hounds, assisted by three lovely ladies, Mrs. Jacob,
Mrs. Bray and Mrs. Johnson.

Sunday evening the membership banquet and business meeting was held at Huxley Bay Marina with
approximately 150 in attendance, where a delicious fish and hush puppy dinner was served as compliments
of the association. This was well organized and conducted to perfection by president Burke, who
introduced several dignitaries from the surrounding community also several presidents from other hunts
and the judges.

Monday morning the weather was cold and wet from heavy rains the night before but this did not keep a
large gallery of hunters and spectators away who were on hand to see 210 fine hunting hounds cast, which
included nine field champions. When the hounds were cast within a few minutes the hound music ws in the
air from all directions. Good running was enjoyed by everyone and several wolf and fox were seen.

Tuesday and Wednesday was no different from Monday except that the hounds began to leave the chase
by the way of the judges scratch pad, while others began to pile up scores on the score sheets which
brought about much conversation and predictions.

On Thursday, the bench show was held, which included the 36 eligible hounds. This was judged by the very
capable Sonny Jacob assisted by his lovely wife as ringmistress. Eakin's Kate was crowned bench
champion, owned by Raymond Beckwith from Lexingtno, Miss.

Friday the 36 eligible hounds were cast. All eyes were on them, judges riding hard on them watching
closely with every effort to select a real champion. At 4:00 p.m. the score sheet was posted and J's Flying
Jitterbug, owned by J. L. Jordon of Liberty, Miss., was crowned All American Champion and truly so
because this fine hound piled up a total score of 735 points during the hunt.
